Enhanced Telephone Features

Your voice mailbox answers the phone, plays a greeting recorded in your own voice, and records the caller's message. All messages are time and date stamped. To listen to your messages or to change your greeting, call your mailbox and enter your secret passcode. If you have Stutter Tone Voice Mail, you will hear a stuttered dial tone when you pick up your telephone indicating you have a message.

This feature prevents telephone numbers with the Line Block feature from ringing your telephone. When Anonymous Call Rejection is activated, the caller will be notified that you do not accept calls from blocked numbers. The caller will also receive voice instructions on how to unblock his/her number so that the call will then be accepted.

To activate Anonymous Call Rejection:

  1. Pick up the telephone and listen for dial tone.
  2. Press *77.

To deactivate Anonymous Call Rejection:

  1. Pick up the telephone and listen for dial tone.

Selective Call Rejection lets you reject calls from specific numbers so you are not bothered with unwanted calls. You can also avoid repetitive harassing calls since this service lets you add the most recent caller's number to your list — even if you do not know their telephone number (as is the case with many harassing calls). Call Rejection allows you to create a list of telephone numbers from which you do not wish to receive calls. Calls from telephone numbers on your list are sent to an announcement that informs the caller you are not receiving calls from them.

To activate this service:

  1. Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial the Call Rejection access code, *60 (1160 on a rotary dial telephone).
  3. Listen to voice instructions which tell you:
    • Whether service is on or off.
    • How many numbers are on your list.
    • How to turn service on or off.
    • How to add or delete numbers from your list.
  4. When finished, hang up the receiver.

To deactivate this service:

  1. Lift the receiver and listen for dial tone.
  2. Dial the Call Rejection access code, *60 (1160 on a rotary dial telephone).
  3. Listen to instructions.
  4. Dial 3 to turn service off.
  5. Hang up the receiver.

This feature will alert you of an incoming call while you are on the phone.

How Call Waiting alerts you of an incoming call:

  1. A beeping tone tells you that another call is attempting to ring through. (Only you hear this tone. The second caller hears normal ringing.)
  2. Another reminder tone will be heard 10 seconds later indicating that the other call remains unanswered.

To answer the second call:

  1. Hold the switchhook or flash key down for about a second to place your first caller on hold.
  2. You are now automatically connected and may speak to the second caller.

To alternate between calls:

  1. By depressing the switchhook or flash key for about a second, you can alternate back and forth between the two callers. (Each conversation is private and cannot be heard by the other caller.)
  2. To end either call, hang up the telephone.

This feature allows you to deactivate the Call Waiting feature to avoid interruption either before or during a phone call.

To use Cancel Call Waiting before initiating your call:

  1. Pick up the phone and listen for dial tone.
  2. Press *70.
  3. A confirmation tone will be heard followed by dial tone.
  4. Make your call.

To use during a call:

  1. Hold down the switchhook or flash key for about a second, putting your current call on hold.
  2. Listen for normal dial tone.
  3. Press *70.
  4. A confirmation tone will be heard and the connection with the first caller will be re-established.

This easy-to-use feature lets you receive calls when you are away from home by redirecting all incoming calls to another telephone number.

How to activate forwarding:

  1. Lift the receiver and press *72 (Rotary 1172).
  2. You will hear three quick tones followed by dial tone; enter the number to where you want your calls forwarded. Two tones confirm Call Forwarding is activated.

Note: You will hear a short ring on your telephone each time a call is forwarded.

To deactivate Call Forwarding:

  • Press *73 (Rotary 1173). Two tones tell you Call Forwarding is deactivated.

Note: Measured service and long distance charges may apply for completed calls.

This feature allows you to trace an incoming call and record the telephone number at the telephone company. When you use *57 you must file a complaint with the Police Department. The information will only be released to the Police Department upon receipt of a subpoena. Information is never given to the customer.

To use Call Trace:

  1. After receiving an annoying or threatening call, hang up the telephone.
  2. Immediately lift the receiver, listen for dial tone and press *57.
  3. Listen for confirmation that the call has been traced, hang up the phone.

Special Instructions regarding Call Trace:

Call Trace must be used immediately after you hang up the phone after receiving the call that you want traced. If you get another call or hear a Call Waiting tone, the wrong call will be traced. Always record the time and date of the traced call.

This feature allows you to see the incoming telephone number and/or name of the caller before you answer the telephone. This feature requires the lease or purchase of a Caller ID display telephone or add-on display unit.

To use Caller ID:

  1. When your telephone rings, the telephone number and/or name of the person calling you will appear on your Caller ID device or telephone display. (If the telephone number of the person calling you has Line Blocking on their telephone, "Number Blocked" will appear on the display.)

This feature prevents your telephone number from being displayed on Caller ID devices. You set up the Call Blocking feature before each call that you wish to have blocked. There is no charge for using this feature.

To use Call Blocking:

  1. Pick up the telephone and listen for dial tone.
  2. Press *67.
  3. Make your phone call. (If the person receiving your call has a Caller ID device, their display will read, "Number Blocked.")

Call Blocking numbers will still be forwarded whenever you dial an 800 or 900 number as well as when you dial 9-1-1.

With this feature, telephone calls originating from your telephone number, with the exception of 800 or 900 numbers, will not appear on Caller ID equipment. If you want your telephone number to be displayed because the individual you are calling will not accept blocked calls, press *82 to temporarily disable Line Block. Since 1-800 numbers are toll-free and are paid for by the 800 service provider, your telephone number will be revealed even when the Line Block is in effect. This rule may also be true for some 900 service providers.
